Hi there and welcome to my little world on the internet! I’m so happy that you’ve found yourself here. Please feel free to cozy up with a cup of tea (may I recommend this one?- Love & Unitea – it’s my personal favorite) and do a little browsing.
I started Wise Oak in 2014; fresh out of college with a degree in American Studies (a history degree emphasizing agriculture in early America, race and racism, as well as the early 20th century working class). Since childhood, all I really wanted to do was work outside with plants, farming, knitting, spinning wool, etc.. I was clearly obsessed with the simple lifestyles of our early ancestors as well as our modern day Amish community. I yearned for a life cultivating the land and living seasonally connected to Mother Earth. As I realized that I was entering the “real world” and would thus be expected to get a common 9-5 job, I set my mind and heart to starting my own herbal business.
It was the following summer that I officially began studying with various herbalists that are local to my Lancaster County area and some that are well known in the herbal community. I had always read my beloved herbal books and created herbal remedies, but I felt like I needed a “proper” education to be taken seriously. I wish I knew then what I know now.
Today I have learned that my greatest teachers, my greatest education, has come from my experience with the plants themselves. Yes, constant studying from other herbalists, books, podcasts, etc. are at the front of my days, but greeting my nettle, red raspberry leaf, or red clover infusion in the morning is the highlight of my day. Today, instead of listening to my head about what I should be doing with my business, I’m listening to my heart. All of my offerings come from this place of heart space; the space in which I am able to listen to the plants and create for you what they tell me. I am, after all, just a conduit of our ancestors.
I create my offerings based on the beloved Wise Woman Tradition which boasts health through optimum nutrition. Of course, I’m not perfect, you aren’t perfect, and so I offer other items to get us through our seasons of health and wellness.
I love chatting about herbs with anyone who wishes to listen. Please feel to reach out to me and I will do my best to respond as promptly as I can. Sometimes this can be a few days as I have stepped away from Wise Oak full time and did, in fact, get that 9-5 job so my husband and I can have a shot at our dream of living off of a small piece of land someday. Please be patient with me as we are all just navigating through this world of life and living.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being present with me here, quite literally putting food on my table, and just being you. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
